The first half was a tentative affair with Quorn having the better of the chances, Goals from Matt Langham, Sam Handy and substitute Ash Robinson, late on, secured the points for a great win.

Quorn Reserves 6 Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves 0

Quorn made it three wins in five days with a convincing win against lowly Bromsgrove. Quorn could have been a goal down within a minutes when poor defending allowed the Bromsgrove striker a free hit at goal but his attempt crashed against the post. Quorn opened the scoring when Josh Thompson's accurate shot from the edge of the box found the`net. Quorn were now frequently threatening and soon Tom Weaver doubled the score with a header from a right wing cross. Matt langham made it three before the break when he finished a crisp passing move first time from 15 yards. Soon in the second half Matt Langham increased the lead. Quorn continued to create many good chances and in the end they were awarded what looked to be a fortunate penalty with a foul on Nick Goold. Alex Honour despatched the penalty sending the keeper the wrong way. The final goal was a tap in from Jaudach Taylor, following a pull back from James Peryer. Another good result and performance and the excellent end of season form leaves Quorn with everything to play for on Monday afternoon.

Quorn Reserves 3 Banbury United Reserves 0

Quorn kept in the title chase with a hard earned victory against a spirited Banbury side, making the long trip for a midweek fixture. The first half was fairly even with Quorn creating the clearer chances when, in similar incidents, two crosses from the right flashed across the box with the forwards just unable to get to the ball as it skidded across the wet surface. In the second half Quorn had the majority of the play and took the lead, perhaps a little fortuitously as a hopeful cross by substitute Matt Langham from the corner of the 18 yards box looped over Banbury's keeper into the net. Quorn settled into a more familiar style of play and soon double their lead through Alex honour. Matt Langham then scored the goal of the night when he ran onto a through ball and expertly finished into the bottom corner.

Quorn Reserves 2 Barwell Reserves 1

Quorn left it late to take all the points from this encounter, which was the fifth game between these two teams this season. Quorn started brightly and were awarded a penalty when Josh Thompson was clumsily felled in the box. Alex honour confidently picked the ball up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot. Quorn continued to attack and from one of many corners, Ash White's header was cleared off the line with the keeper beaten. Barwell gradually came back into the game when clever play and off the ball running around the edge of the area, resulted in a simple finish to beat Grant Wright from six yards. Some strange decisions from the officials seemed to gee both teams up and half time came just in time as tempers were lost. Quorn seemed to dominate possession in the second half but were always aware of the threat from Barwells counter attacks. Ash White again went close and Quorn's impatience at not scoring resulted in a period of play where they just lumped the ball forward in hope. The introduction of Liam Turner with ten minutes to go got Quorn playing the passing game again and with only two minutes to go Alex Honour ran onto a through ball, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net.

Challenge Bowl Final

Boldmere St Michaels Reserves 2 Quorn Reserves 1

The Boldmere team came from a goal down to win the Trophy on their own ground. Quorn were frustrated as early as the first 30 seconds when Josh Thompson's run towards goal was rather blatently blocked in the area but the referee must have decided it was too early to make a big decision. Quorn started well and were rewarded when Tom Weaver collected the ball from a throw in and volleyed into the roof of the net over the home keeper from 18 yards. Quorn continued to control the game without really creating many clear chances but were easily dealing with Boldmere's main threat of their physically strong forward by crowding him out. All things were to change in the first minute of injury time. Ash White failed to control the ball just inside his own half, The Boldmere striker had a clear run towards the goal and shot from about 10 yards out. Keeper Andrew Simpson thought the shot was going wide but it found the inside of his near post. This was probably the turning point of the game, as in the second half Quorn seemed to lack a bit of the confidence they played with in the first half. Boldmere's second and what proved to be the winning goal came from a long boot down the middle of the pitch. Neither of Quorn's central defenders attacked the ball and it ran on to Boldmere's left midfielder who crossed to the striker who had an easy tap in from 6 yards. With a lead to defend Boldmere made it difficult for Quorn to create any clear chances and in the end their best efforts on goal were from free kicks. Firstly Tom Weaver placed the ball narrowly wide with the keeper well beaten. Tom then had to be replaced unable to run off a challenge that left him with stud marks below his shin, another tackle the referee deemed to be acceptable. As Quorn pushed forward Boldmere looked to increase their lead on the break. Weaver's replacement Alex Honour was bought down in the last minute inches outside the box and Josh Thompsons goal bound free kick was somehow kept out. Congratulations to Boldmere, and I am aware that I look at the game through rose tinted glasses but I firmly believe that this was a game that Quorn, even though they played well for long spells, threw away.

Banbury United Reserves 0 Quorn Reserves 2

Quorn returned from the long trip to Oxfordshire with three points. The firm pitch made a passing game very difficult but Quorn did find a lot of joy out wide with the pace of their two wide men. Banbury restricted Quorn initially to shots from outside the box, the closest of which was Emidio Chiavetta's left foot drive. Quorn by this time were enjoying long periods of possession and restricted the home team to just a couple of corners. Banbury were reduced to ten men after 40 minutes for a stamping offence. From now on with the extra man Quorn started to pass the ball around and after 50 minutes Tom Weaver found himself in possession on the edge of the box. His instant first touch enabled him to curl a shot round the diving keeper inside the far post from 20 yards. He then scored a goal that would certainly be goal of the season. Josh Thompson's cross from the right was headed back into Toms path by Jaudach Taylor and he volleyed the ball powerfully into the net from just inside the penalty area. Quorn continued to control the game but were frustrated by a number of fouls conceded by the home team.

Challenge Trophy S/F 2nd Leg (0-0)

Quorn Reserves 0 Barwell Reserves 3

Quorn lost to local rivals Barwell for the second time this week and this time dumped out of the cup. Barwell thoroughly deserved their win, taking their chances when they arose and defending well on the odd occasion they were threatened. In a game of few chances Barwell had a chance to open the scoring on 10 minutes but their effort went over the bar. Quorn conceded from a breakaway following their own corner. The corner was defended and within ten seconds and three passes the ball was in the back of the Quorn net with Quorn's three defenders not being able to handle the pace of Barwells front men. Barwell soon doubled their lead with a poor defensive header that was pounced on to make Quorn suffer. The disappointing thing was that I can't remember the Barwell keeper having to make a save in the first half, as for some reason Quorn just tried to get back on terms by lumping up long balls and Barwells central defenders easily dealt with any threat. Quorn started the second half in determined mood and had a lot of possession to which Barwell seemed happy to concede, as it was in the central third of the pitch. Quorn's best chance was when substitute Tom Weaver headed just wide. Sam Buckingham tried his best to get more from his teammates but most didn't seem to have his appetite for the game. As the game went on with Quorn throwing more players forward the enevitable happened as Barwell got their third and killer goal with about 10 minutes to go. A poor defensive header fell into the path of Barwell's winger and he toed it past Quorn's keeper. Josh Thompson was bought down in the box but Matt Langham's poor kick was saved and Nick Goold's follow up, went well over the bar. An extremely disapointing day, not just that we lost but the way we did not match Barwell's determination and will to win.

Barwell Reserves 2 Quorn Reserves 1

This was already the third encounter this season between these two evenly matched teams, but the first one in the league. An entertaining game with numerous chances to each team, the majority of which were missed. Quorn were one down after a minute when Jack Richardson rather theatrically stumbled and left Barwell's forward with a clear run on goal. He was momentarily halted but he found his team mate who finished easily. Quorn didn't really get to grips for the next ten minutes and Barwell had a couple of half chances. After 20 minutes Matt Langham was fouled on the edge of the penalty area and he despatched the spot kick, sending the keeper the wrong way. The rest of the half was fairly even without either keeper being called into much action. The second half started with Emidio Chiavetta intercepting a cross field ball, he took the ball forward and his shot across goal was only parried by Barwell's keeper but with no Quorn forwards following up, Barwell managed to clear. Quorn then had a shout for a goal as a long range effort wasn't held by Barwells keeper but the linesman adjudged (from the edge of the 18 yard box) that he caught the ball at the second attempt before it crossed the goal-line. Barwell then somehow missed after a powerfull cross was turned over the bar from less than 6 yards out. Nick Goold's crafty footwork got him to the byline and his drag back was thundered against the bar by Jamie Wood and it seemed that the rebound fell kindly to him but his header went just wide. A mix up in the Quorn defence allowed Barwell to break and Grant Wright stood his ground and made an excellent save to keep the scores level. Quorn then had a shout for a penalty but the referee must have thought that it was ball to hand. Quorn had a number of corners and Sam Buckingham was unlucky not to keep his two efforts below the bar as the ball fell to him in the the crowded box, and then he was inches away from getting on the end of Josh Thompson's cross to the far post. Barwell scored the winner a couple of minutes from the end, when Quorn failed to clear a couple of crosses and the resultant third cross was turned in at the far post. A poor result, a game which Quorn propably had the better of the chances but couldnt convert them, but a good all round performance for the last 80 minutes. The sooner they learn that they have to perform for 90 minutes the better.

Brocton Reserves 2 Quorn Reserves 4

Quorn returned from the long trip to Stafford rather fortuitously, with three points. Although there was no doubt that they were the better team it was a couple of errors from the home keeper that handed them the victory. Quorn started brightly, gaining a number of corners, and came closest to scoring when Alex Honour's header glanced just wide of the post. Emidio Chiavetta's inviting free kick also went just wide as it went across the goal inviting just a little touch from any of a number of Quorn attackers. Brocton should have scored themselves when on the break their forward miss hit his shot with only the Quorn keeper to beat. Quorn continued to have the majority of possession without creating any clear cut chances. Brocton broke the deadlock on 50 minutes after Jack Richardson struggled to deal with a header back to his keeper, to be fair he did get a shove in the back from the home teams forward that only the officials missed and it was the offending forward who lobbed the stranded Grant Wright. Quorn were on equal terms within 5 minutes. A quick freekick caught Brocton out and Ash White headed powerfully into the net from 12 yards. Broton then took the lead again with only 9 players on the pitch after two players had to leave the pitch after a 'double 'foul. The free kick into the back found a Brocton player who was given too much room to control the ball and score through a crowded penalty box. Quorn changed their shape and Lewis Smith replaced the injured Jason Weafer. Jamie Wood, had what looked to be a good goal disallowed before Jaudach Taylor equalised. Nick Goold's corner was fumbled by the home keeper and dropped to JD who volleyed into the empty net. Quorn took the lead from another free kick, Tom Weaver expertly finding the top corner from 30 yards. Quorn were now in complete control and completed the scoring when Josh Thompson's shot from the edge of the penalty area was not held by the Brocton keeper and it fell into the net.

Saturday Plate County Cup Final

Kirby Muxloe Reserves 0 Quorn Reserves 1

Reserves cup winners

The blustery wind and steady rain made conditions difficult for both teams and as a result the game was not a spectacle that we had hoped for. The game started with both teams showing signs of nerves. Quorn had the majority of the possession in the first half but Kirby worked hard to close down the space Quorn needed to play their passing game. Quorn were reluctant to press too many players forward and seemed more intent on not conceding than scoring. Quorn had a number of corners and their best chances came after Kirby's keeper failed to claim crosses cleanly but his defence made sure they were in the right position to block the resultant shots on goal. Kirby responded with the direct approach for which they had willing runners up front. In the second half Kirby started off putting Quorn under pressure but with Jason Weafer using his experience to organise and get the best from his team mates and particular the rest of the defensive four, restricting Kirby to just one cross and a long range effort which Grant Wright did well to parry wide of the goal. In the last quarter of the game Quorn started to get the upper hand as their opponents started to tire. They thought they had taken the lead on 75 minutes when Tom Weaver collecting Jaudach Taylor's cross found a yard of space and finished into the bottom corner from 15 yards, but the referee blew rather harshly for hand ball. Quorn finally started to use the width of the pitch and as a result got into more threatening positions. An accurate through ball by Sam Buckingham found Will Richards in the box. He cleverly turned his defender and slotted the ball past Kirby's keeper only to be ruled offside. Quorn broke the deadlock on 90 minutes. James Peryer hastled an opponent and the ball ran to Craig Smith whose first time cross was helped on by Richards into the path of the forward running Weaver, who slotted the ball into the opposite corner with the outside of his foot and was consequently mobbed by his team mates. With the goal coming so late Kirby didnt have time to get back on level terms. In summary, not a brilliant display but Quorn deserved the victory, adding to last years Senior Cup win.

Heather St Johns Reserves 1 Quorn Reserves 4

Manager Dave Powell respectfully changed Quorn's system after suffering defeat to todays opponents two weeks ago. James Peryer had to withdraw in the warm up and was replaced by Sam Buckingham, finally playing in his prefered position and his man of the match performance will certainly give the management something to think about for the last 6 weeks of the season. Quorn started well and had a couple of half chances before taking the lead. A quick throw in found Nick Goold in space. His accurate drag back was converted by Tom Weaver. Quorn played most of the first period in the opponents half attacking at every opportunity and working extremely hard to regain the ball when Heather did have possession, particularly the lone striker Alex Honour. Quorn doubled the lead after Josh Thompson, who had tormented Heather regularly in the first half crossed and Jamie Wood rose highest to head home from 10 yards. Jamie Wood soon got his second after again timing his run to volley home Nick Goold's corner. Heather certainly came out in the second half to reduce the deficit quickly, but Quorns defence of new signing Dan Dorrans, Ash White, Emidio Chiavietta, and the returning Sam Handy stood strong for most of the second half. Just one lapse of concentration with a missed header allowed Heather to temporarily get back into the game. Tom Weaver increased Quorn's lead immediately, expertly finding the bottom corner of the goal with a shot from the edge of the box. Quorn should have increased their lead as they continued to create chances. However an excellent result and more importantly a good performance following a few below par performances.

A good crowd turned up to see if Barwell could avenge their county cup semi final defeat to Quorn two weeks ago. Unfortunately the game was not a spectacle with only a few chances created and both teams struggling to get used to the quickly drying out pitch. Barwell probably feel they should have won the game as they had the better of the chances, striking the cross bar from a free kick in the first half, and then heading wide from six yards out in the last few minutes. Quorn produced a dogged performance proving that they can dig in when the going gets tough and had the determination not to lose the game with the back five warranting particular praise. Quorn's efforts were restricted to shots from around the penalty box. Still all to play for and on tonights performance the tie could go either way.

Quorn Reserves 3 Highgate Utd Reserves 1

Making seven changes from the weekend fixture, Quorn got back to winning ways in a hard fought encounter. Highgate started well and enthusiastically and created the early chances but any such chances were restricted to long range efforts which Grant Wright comfortably dealt with. Quorn took time to settle but enjoyed a period of pressure midway through the half and they took the lead after Matt Langham's cross was turned in by Nick Goold at the far post. Highgate struck back from a free kick on the left hand side. The lofted cross was`misjudged by keeper Wright and Highgate's forward was first to react. The injured Jack Richardson had to be replaced at half time by Gary Griffiths. Quorn played with more confidence in the second half both in defence and in attack but it took an assist from the visitors keeper to give Quorn the lead as he dived over Nick Goold cross and Gooldy got his second of the night. Highgate attempted to get back into the game but found resistance from Quorn's defence and hard working midfield. Josh Thompson had a couple of chances to increase the lead before Matt Langham shot into the far corner after his twisting run turned two defenders inside out.

Quorn Reserves 0 Heather St Johns Reserves 3

Quorn conceded within the first five minutes when, after what seemed to be a harmless ball up the field, Heather's forward's reactions were the sharpest and he looped the ball over the stranded Quorn keeper Grant Wright. Quorn had the opportunity to equalise almost straight away but the legs of Heathers keeper blocked Alex Honours shot. The same player was again unlucky when his snap shot ended up in the keepers arms after the ball broke loose to him following a Quorn corner. Heather defended in numbers for the rest of the first half and Quorn found it difficult to break the opponents defence down and Heather always looked threatening on the break. Quorn started the second half in determined mood and should have been on equal terms when Jaudach Taylor followed in on Ash White's delightful cross but again found Heather's keeper as stubborn opposition. Quorn created a number of half chances but found themselves two down from the penalty spot after James Peryer's clumsy challenge. The referee then had to be substituted and the break in play upset any momentum Quorn had raised. Heather scored another on the break after Wright had saved the initial shot but he was let down by his defence who lacked the ambition to close the scorer down. Heather fully deserved their win and even though they had a bit of luck in their own penalty area they certainly earnt it. Quorn lacked the passion and team spirit that has been a feature of their play this season and have an opportunity to put it right on Tuesday.

Challenge Bowl S/F 2nd Leg (1-3)

Quorn Reserves 5 Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves 2 Quorn win 6-5 on agg.

Quorn needing to correct the two goal deficit from the first leg had a good chance in the first minute when Jaudach Taylor's header across the 6 yard area was volleyed wide by Matt Langham. Bromsgrove then could have taken the lead when Quorn keeper Grant Wright made a good block and they then hit the woodwork twice with the rebounds falling kindly to Wright. Quorn should have taken the lead after Nick Goold's anticipation left him with a one on one but shot narrowly wide. Great entertainment for the first ten minutes. Quorn did take the lead following a corner, the first shot was blocked on the line and the ball fell to Jason Weafer who headed home from 12 yards. Quorn soon doubled their lead after Will Richards accurate through ball was converted by Matt Lagham after the scorer had expertly created space for himself with a classy turn, wrong footing the defence. Quorn then gave a goal away when even though they had plenty of men back defending they didn't do the basics and mark the opponents. Quorn increased their lead on 40 minutes after Langham was felled in the box and Jack Richardson rocketed the penalty into the net. There was still time for Quorn to concede another. James Peryer was judged to have committed a foul on the edge on the box and the opponents curled the ball past the unsighted Wright. In the second half Quorn seemed to have learnt their lessons from the mistakes made in the first half and never really looked like conceding any more but it was down to whether they could score the two goals they needed to progress into the final. It wasnt long before half the job was done. Langham finishing from inside the box. Langham completed his hatrick with what turned out to be the winning goal of the tie from a shot which passed under the keepers body. With ten minutes to go the visitors heads dropped and Quorn had a number of chances to make the result more convincing.

Challenge Trophy Q/F

Brocton Reserves 1 Quorn Reserves 4

Quorn travelled to Stafford for the first time ever to a very welcoming Brocton FC and successfully progressed into the semi-final of the Challenge Trophy. Due to arriving late (not the easiest place to find) Quorn's preparation was not ideal but they soon settled to play some of their best football for a number of weeks on a good pitch that suited them. After a number of near misses and a succession of corners they took the lead on 15 minutes when Jack Richardson headed home converting a header across the box by Alex Honour following a corner from the left. Almost immediately Brocton were on level terms after Nick Goold's clumsy challenge in the area was penalised and the Brocton goalscorer sent Grant Smith the wrong way from the spot. The game became an even affair for the next ten minutes. Quorn, with makeshift centre half Craig Smith the pick of the defenders. Quorn, with the midfield pairing of Jamie Wood (who was required to finish the game at centre half ) and Will Richards being at the heart of all the good play. Quorn took the lead on 35 minutes when from a quick throw in Sam Buckingham received the ball 40 yards out, passed the ball onto Matt Langham who held the ball up before laying the ball into Bucko who had continued his run and struck the ball into the net from 15 yards. At the start of the second half Grant Smith pulled off a marvellous save to maintain Quorn's lead. From this point on Quorn really took control of the game and Jack Richardson scored from the spot to increase the lead. Quorn created a number of chances after this with Emidio Chiavetta and Jaudach Taylor linking well down the left creating a number of chances with excellent crosses, but unusually Alex Honour's finishing was not up to his usual high standards. Matt Langham scored the fourth after 67 minutes creating space for himself with his clever footwork and comfortably passing the ball into the net from 12 yards. A good night all round with Will Richards getting the man of the match vote. Again we must thank the people of Brocton who went out of their way to welcome us and sent us home on our long journey with a full stomach.

Quorn Reserves 2 Gresley Reserves 2

Gresley started the brighter of the two teams and perhaps could of been two up in the first 5 minutes after they failed to convert crosses from their right which flew across the six box. Quorn settled and the game became an entertaining encounter with both teams playing a high tempo passing game. Quorn's best chance of the half came when an excellent cross from the left was headed over by Liam Turner from 6 yards. Gresley took the lead on 41 minutes when Quorn were penalised for a high foot on the edge of the box and the resultant free kick passed through the wall into the net. This decision was not the first or the last strange decision made by the referee or his officials. Quorn were certainly spurred into action and started the second half well and soon equalised when Alex Honour received the ball and created space for himself, turned and his cross shot form 18 yards found the corner of the net. Gresley always looked to threaten on the break but in the main this was stifled out by the Quorn defence. Quorn should have taken the lead after a free kick was not dealt with by the home defence and after the ball had been laid back the shot went high and wide with only the keeper to beat. Quorn did take the lead when a ball into the area seemed to get stuck either in the mud or between legs but it was Honour who reacted quickest to toe the ball into the net. Quorn then had to reshuffle their defence after a late, high challenge left Jason Weafer in agony and a gash on the bottom of his shin. Not wanting to get people sent off for the sake of it but it was certainly a challenge that warranted it, but the sinner didn't even get spoken to by the referee whilst a Quorn player was booked for expressing his concerns over the incident. Quorn had further chances to increase their lead after Turner headed wide from six yards and Tom Weavers free kick was tipped onto the bar by Gresleys keeper. With 5 minutes of injury time played Quorn still looked, rather naively, to increase their lead and left themselves exposed and more or less from a Quorn corner Gresley broke outnumbering the home teams defenders. Gresley's forward beat the Quorn keeper to the ball and the ball went forward to another Gresley player to shoot into an open goal for the equaliser. Unfortunately the linesman, to everybodies surprise, including the visitors, forgot the basic principals set out in law 11 of the game and awarded a goal. Perhaps it is what Gresley deserved over the whole of the game, but the manner in which came about certainly upset the Quorn players and management.

Saturday Plate County Cup S/F

Quorn Reserves 1 Barwell Reserves 0

Quorn claimed a place in their second county cup final in two years after a hard fought but fully deserved victory on a snow covered pitch against local league rivals Barwell. Games between these two sides are normally close encounters and this was no different. Quorn kicked off and set their stall out with a shot on goal in the first 15 seconds. Both teams settled well and created an entertaining game with both sides always willing to attack. Quorn had a goal disallowed after Nick Goolds free kick was headed on in to the goal but Will Richards was adjudged to be interfering with the goalkeepers sight. Barwell produced a fine save from Andy Simpson low to his right. As the half progressed Quorn seemed the more likely to score. James Peryer's tenacious tackling and Michael Papporozzi's constant willingness to close down opponents in the centre of the pitch restricted Barwells attacking threat. Quorn scored with 15 seconds of the half remaining. Matt Langham accepted the ball on the half way line, turned and played a ball to winger Liam Fitzpatrick who took the ball to the by-line before crossing perfectly for Will Richards to head home. Barwell started the second half determined to quickly pull back their deficit, however found the defensive four of Sam Buckingham, Ash White, Jack Richardson, and Emidio Chiavetta stubbon opposition. Barwell won a number of free kicks around the edge of the penalty area but Andy Simpson comfortably held everything that was on target. Quorn always looked threatening on the break and had a couple of half chances to increase their lead. Simpson saved bravely at the feet of Barwell's attacker and as a result had to leave the field to be replaced by young keeper Grant Wright. Barwell's trickery around the box created a few chances and Wright was soon called into action saving bravely at the feet of Barwell's on rushing forward. Quorn frustrated the opponents and finished the game strongly but any chances they created went wide.

Challenge Bowl S/F 1st Leg

Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves 3 Quorn Reserves 1

Quorn have it all to do if they have ideas of reaching the final of this competition. Quorn started brightly and took the lead after Tom Weaver's early shot from the edge of the penalty area caught the home keeper on his heels and found the bottom corner of the net. The home team equalised somewhat against the run of play when their midfielder's run was not tracked and his cross found their forward who was given too much time to slot home from six yards. Bromsgrove then took the lead from a penalty to which Quorn felt agrieved, not for the decision to award a spot kick but that there was an off side offence earlier in the build up. Quorn themselves had a penalty appeal turned down as Weavers feet were taken from under him. This was perhaps not the strangest decision from the officials on the day. That was when the referee asked the home team to retake a throw as it went to the opposition instead of his own team mates. The half time score was a little unfair on Quorn but they soon went further behind after they made hard work of a routine misplaced through ball and Bromsgrove's striker cooly slotted past Andy Simpson in goal. Quorn seemed to have a lot of ball for the remainder of the game but were unable to break down the home teams defence and in fact didnt have a shot that needed their keeper to make a save in the second half. All in all it just made the trip back seem even longer.

Highgate Reserves 1 Quorn Reserves 2

Quorn played their first game for two months on a pitch that was certainly playable with parts effected by overnight frost. They also welcolmed Jamie Wood back who, although starting the season elsewhere, had not played for Quorn since being injured in the Senior Cup semi-final almost a year ago. Quorn made a perfect start when Emidio Chiavetta's excellent cross was coolly placed into Highgates net by Jack Richardson. It seemed that Quorn had got an early grip on the tricky surface as they managed to win a number of corners , however Highgates hard working back four seemed to be well positioned to block the better chances created. As the half went on the home team themselves started to use the pitch to their advantage with balls over the top to their pacey forwards wirth the Quorn defence finding it difficult to keep their feet. Just before half time Highgate drew level after Quorn keeper Andy Simpson's poor kick went straight to the oponents forward who shot into an empty net from 25 yards. This certainly spurred on the home team and they started the secong half on top without creating any chances. Dave Powell made a tactical change with Jamie Wood and Tom Weaver swopping positions. Quorn then started to have a lot more possession around the opponents penalty area but Quorns reluctance to shoot and try to walk the ball into the net meant the home keeper wasn't called into action. However in the last twenty minutes Quorn took complete control with their fitness being an important factor. Firstly Alex Honour was played through and the keeper saved. The game was won on 80 minutes when a touch of class from Nick Goold who beat his defender and his inch perfect cross was headed home by Quorns young forward, Honour. Highgate tried to recover but found Jason Weafer's marshalled defence standing firm.

Walsall Wood Reserves 0 Quorn Reserves 5

Quorn got back to winning ways after recent games where points had been dropped. Quorn opened the scoring early in the game when Tom Weaver's corner was turned in at the far post by Sam Buckingham. Quorn looked as if they could score with every attack and doubled the lead after Adam Brown's excellent cross into the area was turned into his own goal by the home defender with Jaudach Taylor waiting to pounce. Walsall's only threat was on the break but only once did they penetrate the back four marshalled by the experienced Gary Griffiths and then new signing Grant Wright made an excellent point blank save. In the second half Quorn found it difficult to maintain their passing game with the weather and pitch quickly deteriorating however they did take full control of the game from here on restricting the home side to a couple of corners in the second half. A Walsall defender then had to leave the pitch with a serious head injury and whilst they were reorganising, Quorn increased their lead following another corner. This time JD's flag kick was headed home at the far post by Jack Richardson. The fourth soon followed when Alex Honour scored a deserved goal from close range. Walsall were reduced to ten men at this stage. The fifth came after the home keeper had for some reason took the ball out of his area conceding a free kick, Sam Buckinghams delightful delivery with the outside of his foot was headed home by Adam Brown.

Quorn Reserves 9 Harborough Town Reserves 0 Saturday Plate Q/F

Quorn produced an excellent first half performance to secure themselves a place in the semi finals of the Saturday Plate County Cup competition. Quorn opened the scoring following Nick Goold's corner, Tom Weavers first time shot on the turn curled into the far corner. The second soon followed when Weavers early taken shot from the edge of the box beat the visitors keeper. Weaver helped himself to his hat-trick on eleven minutes after good build up play down the left, Goold glided past his marker and pulled the back to Weaver how rifled his shot into the top corner of the net. Tom Ingram was the next to score after cutting in from the right, his left foot shot from 18 yards found the corner of the net. Harborough contributed to the fifth goal as a back pass was intercepted by Matt Langham, who duly dispatched the ball into the net. Quorn's next two goals were perhaps a little fortuitous as they benefitted from a couple of close offside decisions when Liam Turner firstly cooly finished one on one, and secondly 'tapped' in from close. Quorn's eighth just before the break was the best of the night with Langham controlling a pass, laying the ball into the path of the over-lapping fullback Ash White, his cross found Ingram, whose diving header found the net. In the second half, Quorn had long periods of possession but didnt use it to penetrate Harborough as they had in the first half. Weaver did score his fourth mid way through the half, following in after Miggsy's shot had been parried into his path. Finally a word for Harborough who continued to try to play a passing game through out the match and didn't let their frustrations get the better of them.

Quorn Reserves 1 Oadby Town Reserves 1

This being the third time already this season that these teams had played each other, Oadby certainly came to overturn the previous two games's results. Quorn started the brighter and soon got into their passing rythum but without really creating many clear cut chances. Quorns only chances were long range efforts from James Peryer and Nick Goold. Oadby always looked to cause difficulties on the break but found the Quorn defence stubborn resistance and they rarely troubled Quorns keeper Andrew Simpson break Quorn took the lead on 35 minutes when following a corner and Oadby appealing for hand ball Liam Turner laid the ball back to Nick Goold who whipped in a dangerous ball which was diverted into his own net by the Oadby defender being put under pressure by Will Richards. In the second half Oadby came out a different team creating a number of chances the best of which Simpson saved from point blank. Quorn had good possession at times but should of done better in front of goal. Alex Honour replaced the injured Will Richards and showed some promising play on his debut. The Quorn defence were being put under increasing pressure as the game went on but in the main found in particular Sam Buckinghams tenacious tackling and Jack Richardsons aerial ability difficult to penetrate. Quorn had a couple of penalty appeals for hand ball turned down. However Oadbys persistance payed off and got a deserved equlaiser in injury time as possesion down the attacking teams right hand side was not dealt with properly by the defending team and a cross found Oadby's player free on the edge of the 6 yard box for an easy finish. Not a poor performance by Quorn but they suffered from not finishing the game off when then had the chances to.

Chasetown Reserves 3 Quorn Reserves 1

Quorn travelled to last year's league winners with a number of squad members unavailable through illness and injury but this was no excuse as Chasetown proved why they have won the title in previous years by playing the conditions better and grinding out a result, after playing the last 50 minutes with only 10 players. The game did start positively for Quorn with Adam Brown heading onto the bar from Nick Goolds cross. Chastown went ahead in the 6th minute when their forwards mis-control ran fortuitously into the the path of his team mate who finished expertly inside the near post. The remainder of the first half was fairly even with Quorn defending against a strong blustery wind, with each team having control for 5 minute spells but neither defence giving ground. Quorns best chance was when Gary Griffiths headed wide from another Goold cross. On 40 minutes Quorn were awarded a penalty when Adam Brown's goal bound header was saved on the line by a defenders arm. The referee had no option but to dismiss the offender and Brown converted to even up the scores. Quorn committed suicide in the first ten minutes of the second half by conceeding two goals that could easily have been avoided. The first was after Jack Richardson's mis-control on the edge of the box ran to a Chasetown player whose shot from the edge of the box went under keeper Andrew Simpson.. The second typified Chasetowns second half ethic as a hopeful cross was heading towards Quorn's goal and into the keepers hands. Chasetowns forward however managed to get his head onto it as it dropped in the keepers hands. By this time Chasetown were in complete control of the game with the 10 men keeping possession for long periods. Quorn on the other hand resulted to the long ball, which with the wind, gave their fowards no chance of joining in with play. It was only in the last ten minutes that Quorn really threatened the home goal but found their keeper showing stubborn resistance, making two or three full stretch saves. At the other end Chasetown still threatened to extend their lead on the break. Credit must go to Chasetown for their second half performance and commitment shown and hope that Quorn learn from this if they want to press them for honours this year.

L & R County Cup - The Saturday Plate 1st Round

Quorn Reserves 3 Coalville Town Reserves 0

As last years Senior Cup winners, Quorn started the defence of their title, albeit in a different cup competition, the Leicestershire Saturday Plate, against a hard working Coalville side. Quorn were surprised after 5 minutes when Tom Weaver's goal was strangely ruled out for a high foot when there didnt seem to be any oponents close by. Quorn became frustrated at the fact they could not penetrate their opponents defence and in fact it was Coalville who could have snatched a first half lead when their striker shot wide with a clear shot at goal. Quorn finished the half with a lot of possession but didn't create any clear cut chances. Jason Medcroft had to be substituted at half time and was replaced by Jason Weafer. Quorn took control for the first ten minutes of the second half only creating a couple of half chances and looked like a team of individuals at times. Coalville responded by having a good spell for the next ten minutes and their best chance came when Michael Payne saved acrobatically from a snap shot from the edge of the box. The turning point came after manager Dave Powell's brave decision to take of two forwards and replace them with two wingers. The impact was almost immediate when on 75 minutes, after a break down the left Jaudach Taylor's cross was turned in at the far post by Nick Goold. Quorn seemed to relax at this point and started to produce the style of play they have done so, all season. The second came from another cross from JD on the left and Will Richard's accurate header down was turned in off the post by man of the match Tom Weaver. Quorns third was scored by Kyle Smith was cooly slotted the ball home from yet another cross from the left. In the end a deserved victory but credit to Coalville for their never say die attitude. Also a word of praise for the officials who contributed to an enjoyable game.

Quorn Reserves 7 Brocton Reserves 1

Quorn made light of the fact that they played the last 50 mins with 10 men, after forward Joe Jonas was dismissed. Quorn started the game well, with a lot of possession and created a few half chances before Adam Brown kept his scoring record up by expertly slotting the ball home from Emidio Chiavetta's excellent through ball. The Brocton keeper kept the score down to one with a number of fine saves before Joe Jonas was given two yellow cards for dissent within about 30 seconds. With a man advantage Brocton went on the attack and nearly scored but were stopped by keeper Andrew Simpson palming the ball around the post. The next 10 minutes became the Liam Fitzpatrick show with his tireless, unselfish running making up for the lack of an eleventh player, single handedly. Firstly he ran the length of the pitch with the ball, then played a one-two with Nick Goold before being felled in the box. Adam Brown converted. Fitzy then made a weaving run down the wing, cut inside and finished with a left foot shot. The forth soon followed when Michael Papparozzi drove the ball across the keeper into the far corner after his well timed run was spotted by Jaudach Taylor. Brocton tried to get back into the game but the defence was well organised by the ever youthful Jason Weafer and Gary Griffiths. Brocton did however manage to score to make it 4-1 when an attempted clearance ricochet into their forwards path. Quorn soon increased their lead with the goal of the game when Adam Brown's ball wide, was crossed in, first time by Denis Moran to Tom Weaver who finished into the corner of the goal from the edge of the box with a first time shot. Denis Moran was the next name on the score sheet, creating space for himself and finishing into the corner from 12 yards. The final goal of the game was scored by Tom Ingram, returning from injury and marked a good second half performance by him. His powerful shot from outside the box was fumbled into the net by the visiting keeper.

Gresley Rovers Res. 0-4 Quorn Res.

Quorn came away from a visit to the previously unbeaten league leaders with a convincing victory. The result was made somewhat easier after Gresley's forward was sent off for retaliating in the 40th minute. Quorn started brightly and had a few good chances early on to open the scoring. The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Matt Langham reacted quickest after his original shot had been blocked, and his shot entered the net via the post. Quorn kept on top, keeping posession for long periods with Gresleys threat being on the break, but with Kris Matthews getting some match practice after a lengthy lay off after injury and Gary Griffiths (slipping into the back four after a late withdrawal) organising and cutting out any half chances they may have created. After the sending off Quorn soon took advantage, doubling the lead with Nick Goold coolly curling the ball in to the far corner with the outside of his foot. In the second half, with the extra player, Quorn should have really took full control but instead seemed to sit back and let Gresley have a lot of posession but again they failed to threaten Andy Simpsons goal. When Quorn did get into goal scoring positions a mixture of poor finishing, good keeping and selfish play stopped them from increasing the score. However late goals by substitute Kyle Smith and Matt Langham, both chipping the advancing keeper from 30 yards made the result more convincing.

Quorn Reserves 3-1 Heather St. Johns Reserves

Heather proved tough opposition in this Challenge Bowl cup tie and without some fine goalkeeping the result may have been different. The game started with each team cancelling out each others attacking play but it was Heather who scored first in the 10th minute with a neat turn in the box followed by a tenacious first time shot by Heather's striker. It took Quorn 20 minutes to get into their usual rhythm, creating few chances until Kyle Smith latched onto a defensive clearance and clinically fired into the net from 18 yards. The rest of the half was pretty even however Andrew Simpson was called upon to make a double save. The second half started in a similar way to the first, ending with Heathers work rate cancelling out Quorns endeavour. However Quorn's second and what turned out to be the winner was gifted with Heathers keeper miscontrolling a back pass which rolled into the net. The tempo of Quorn's play increased with the introduction of the substitutes from what can only be called a Quorn dreamteam bench. Liam Fitzpatick's hassling won the ball and his excellent through ball was converted past the keeper by Adam Brown. Quorn continued to create chances with the easiest falling to Joe Jonas who fell after rounding the keeper. Again Simpson saved well late on to maintain the 2 goal difference. The result meant that Quorn qualified for the semi finals of this cup competition.

Quorn Reserves 8-2 Walsall Wood Reserves

Quorn welcomed back into the squad four players returning from injury all of whom played their part in an excellent victory in this Challenge Trophy Cup Match. However Quorn did have to pull back a 2 goal deficit after the pacey Wasall Wood striker Clarke firstly latched on to a mistimed tackle by Ash White and secondly headed home from 18 yards after a long punt across the pitch caught the Quorn defence on their heels. Quorn did look threatening every time they attacked with the pace of Tommy Byrne causing the visitors particular problems. Quorn missed a few half chances before reducing the arrears. Byrne's freekick cross being bundled in by Liam Turner on 25 minutes. The scores were equal when Byrne latched onto a Peryer through ball and rounded the keeper. Quorn then took the lead on 35 minutes when follwing a passing move on the left Byrne side footed into the net running onto Jaudach Taylor's cross. The fourth and best of the day soon followed when Nick Goold's pass to Liam Tuner whose first time cross was headed home by Byrne to complete his hat-trick. Quorn continued the second half as they finished the first, scoring some high quality goals, the first of which again followed a flowing move down the left and again Taylors cross was expertly turned into the goal by Byrne. Quorn sixth followed some good close control and footwork down the right by Nick Goold who dragged the ball back unselfishly for Turner to score. Quorn continued to threaten every time they attacked with their wide men Goold and Taylor being at the centre of most moves. However the next goal was totally different. Emidio Chiavetta's long pass over the top of Walsall defence was coolly despatched into the far corner by Turner to complete his hatrick. The final goal came from a goalmouth scamble when after what seemed numerous dummies and mishits Taylor converted from 6 inches.. All in all an excellent performance to which all 14 players contibuted but a special mention must be made to Will Richards who didn't misplace a pass all game and worked tirelessly for the team..

Bromsgrove Rovers Res 1-3 Quorn Reserves

Quorn deserved the points from their trip to the end of the M42 but weren't at their best on a day where blustery conditions made controlling the game difficult at times. The day got off to a bad start when Jason Medcroft got stuck on the motorway and Gary Griffiths dropped into the back four. The game itself started well for Quorn who attacked from the kick off. After a couple of half chances Quorn took the lead after some trickery in the goal mouth by Nick Goold, his cross was coolly put in at the near post By Denis Moran. Instead of spurring them on Quorn seemed to sit back and it was Bromsgrove who reacted without really threatening the Quorn Goal. The goal scorer had to be replaced after 30 mins with Kyle Smith taking his place up front. The rest of the half was a non event. Bromsgrove started the second half in determined mood and produced a fine save from Andy Simpson before equalising on 60 mins from a tap in following another Simpson save. At last this gave Quorn the kick up the rear that they required and they immediately started to look threatening with every attack. Quorns second was however somewhat lucky with a Goold corner 'blown' in the net over the home keeper by a gust of wind. Quorn never really looked back from this point with Will Ricketts affecting the game more. The third, five minutes from the end, was a result of Kyle Smith's persistance breaking away and from his cross Ricketts's brave header was deflected to the edge of the box where Jaudach Taylor finished, off the inside of the post from 20 yards.

Gresley Rovers Res 1-3 Quorn Reserves

The reserves maintained their unbeaten run in the Challenge Bowl with a convincing win at Gresley. Quorn hit the post in the first 2 minutes when Tommy Byrne chipped the keeper after latching onto a through ball. Quorn did soon score when Denis Moran followed in a cross after good work from Will Richards. The second soon followed when Joe Jonas rounded the keeper after being put through by Moran. Quorn continued to attack and threaten from wide positions and were rewarded with a third goal on 40 minutes when Byrne passed into the net from Jaudach Taylors cross. Gresley started stronger in the second half but their threatening forwards were well marshalled by Joe Shaw and Jason Medcroft who was returning from a lenghty injury. Will Richards had to leave the field with what looked like a serious knee injury and this stopped Quorns hold on the game. Andy Simpson pulled off a great save when somehow reaching and tipping over a long range effort. Quorn then again started to create chances and somehow the score remained at three with the help of the cross bar, desperate defending and poor finishing. Gresley got a consolation with ten minutes to go when Joe Shaw was adjudged to have fouled the Gresley left back in the area and the penalty was just out of Simpsons reach. There was still enough time for Quorn to miss more chances with Jonas, Goold and Moran all going close. Simpson was called upon late on to produce a good one handed save in the last minute. Another excellent performance which would have pleased holidaying manager Dave Powell.

Quorn Reserves 2 Chasetown Res 1

The Reserves just about deserved the win in a tight but entertaining Challenge Bowl tie. Chasetown were the first to threaten but an excellent save by Andy Simpson kept the scores level. Quorn took control of the game as the half continued, with Joe Jonas being at the heart of most of the attacking moves, which resulted in Quorn taking the lead on 40 minues when Jonas's perfect cross was headed into the far corner of the goal by Jaudach Taylor. In the second half Quorn's defence kept Chasetown reasonably quiet but could do nothing about their equaliser. Joe Shaw won a header from the vistitors goal kick, but it landed at the feet of the Chasetown player whose first time volley from 50 yards flew over Simpson into the goal. Quorn were stunned by this for a few minutes but again under the leadership of Ash White took hold of the game. From a free kick, just in the opponents half, Shaw played a cleverball to Nick Goold who showed some trickery to beat his opponent and crossed for Tommy Byrne to chest into the goal. Quorn had chances to extend their lead but Chasetowns keeper got the better of both Jonas and Byrne in one on one situations. Another excellent victory, with Sam Buckingham, Ryan North and the old heads of Jason Weafer and Gary Griffiths all performing well.

Oadby Reserves 0 Quorn Reserves 2

The reserves got back to winning ways after a convincing win over Oadby Town Reserves. Quorn started brightly and could have been three up in the first 15 minutes, with Phil Miller twice lifting the ball over the advancing keeper and hitting the bar, and Ryan North shooting over from 18 yards. Quorn took the lead in 27 minutes after a neat interchange between Miller and Nick Goold which ended with Goold passing the ball into the corner from the edge of the box. Quorn doubled their lead when Dan Wright's shot was turned into their own goal by an Oadby defender. Quorn continued to threaten in the second half with the Oadby keeper making good saves from Joe Jonas, Kyle Smith and Gary Griffiths. A well organised defensive display throughout the game led to a good all round performance.

Boldmere St Michaels Reserves 5 Quorn Reserves 4

Games between these two teams have had a history of being high scoring in the past few years and the handfull of supporters werent disappointed. Quorns can only blame a catelogue of errors for the defeat which ended their unbeaten start to the season. Boldmere took the lead on 10 mins when keeper Simpson mishandled a freekick. A misunderstanding between fullback and keeper lead to Boldmere doubling their lead shooting from 18 yards into an empty net. Quorn reduced the deficit when Griffiths loobbed the advancing Boldmere keeper to maintain his impressive scoring record on this ground. Boldmeres pace on the counter attack was causing Quorns defence constant problems and they increased their lead to 3-1. Richards scored for Quorn just before half time. After just 15 seconds in the second half the scores were level after Jaudach Taylor chipped the keeper intercepting a poor back pass. Two minutes later Quorn were in front when Langham cooly finished after finding himself one on one with the keeper. Boldmere gradually became the stronger and equalised after a free kick from the edge of the back was deflected off the wall past Simpson.Quorn then went to sleep during a Boldmere substitution, with the substitute finding the home teams striker who ran in on goal unopposed for Boldmere to take the lead again. Langham hit the bar, after some excellent individual play in the box and Boldmere keeper made an excellent save late on to hold on to the three points.

Quorn Reserves 4-1 Walsall Wood Reserves

Walsall Wood started the brighter hitting the bar after 5 minutes with a header. Quorn almost immediately went up the other end to take the lead, the opponents keeper just unable to fully reach Matt Langhams chip. Quorn doubles their lead on 15 minutes when following a through ball from Will Ricketts, Dan Wright beat the offside trap to slot home from 18 yards. Wright then miised a good chance to increase the lead when he shot over the bar following in a Sam Wood cross. After half time James Peryer found himself in the right position after a corner had gone through a crowded six yard box to make it 3 nil. The forth and best goal of the day followed an excellent move down the left hand side and converted clinically in to the top corner of the goal by Emidio Chiavetta. Walsall scored a deserved goal with 10 minutes remaining, a long range shot beating Andy Simpson.

Quorn Reserves 3-2 Chasetown

In the first league game of the season the 2nd team staged a fantastic comeback to record a well deserved 3-2 victory against last year's Champions Chasetown . Just before half time, and from their own free kick the Chasetown forward blocked a punched clearance from Quorn keeper Andy Simpson and easily slotted in the rebound. The second half started witrh Chasetown going two up with their sriker expertly finishing from what seemed to be from an offside position. Quorns comeback started with Jack Richardson coverting the first of two penalties after Nick Goold had been clearly brought down. Quorns earned got their second penalty after Matt Langham was adjudged to have been fouled by the Chasetown centre back. Again Jack Richardson cooly converted despite gallant efforts from the keeper. Following what can only be classed as a squabble the referee booked a player from each team this being the Chasetown players second yellow thus reducing them to 10 men Joe Jonas secured the victory after closing down the opponents defender and finishing from close range.
